(Stemacteur) As a voice actor, you lend your voice to characters in animated films, computer games, commercials, documentaries, and audiobooks. You work in professional recording studios where you voice texts according to the instructions of the director and sound technician. You adapt your voice to different characters, emotions, and styles, and ensure proper timing when dubbing visual material. You collaborate with other voice actors during group recordings and regularly consult with producers about the desired delivery of your voice work.
You often start as a freelance voice actor with small assignments for local radio, commercials, or small animation projects. After building experience, you can grow into larger productions such as television series, films, and international games. With more experience, you can specialize in specific genres such as documentaries, children's animation, or e-learning modules. Eventually, you can develop into an established voice actor with your own agency representation and regular client base, or you can develop yourself into a voice coach who guides others in the profession.
AI technology affects the voice acting profession through the development of synthetic voices and text-to-speech systems. For standard voice-overs and simple commercials, AI is taking over part of the market. At the same time, new opportunities are emerging such as training AI models with your own voice for specific applications. You can distinguish yourself by focusing on emotionally complex work, character voices, and interactive content where human nuance and creativity remain essential.
