What will you learn?

(Zorg en Technologie) In the Associate Degree program Care and Technology, you learn to bridge modern technology and healthcare delivery. You develop skills in implementing and managing care technology such as electronic patient records, telemonitoring systems, and medical equipment. Subjects such as care processes, ICT applications in healthcare, data analysis, project management and communication are central to the curriculum. You also learn about privacy legislation, quality care and innovation in healthcare. This Associate Degree distinguishes itself from a full HBO bachelor's degree through its strong practical focus and shorter study duration, allowing you to enter the job market more quickly. Practice-oriented projects include optimizing care processes with technology, implementing new care systems in real healthcare organizations, and internships at hospitals, health insurers or care technology companies. The program is perfect for you if you have an interest in both care and technology, can think analytically, and want to contribute to the digitalization of healthcare.

Required Education

For admission to this Associate Degree program, you need at least an MBO level 4 diploma, preferably in a care or technology-oriented direction, or a HAVO/VWO diploma. The HAVO/VWO subject profile Nature and Health (N&G) fits best with this program because you have already been introduced to biology and chemistry, which is essential for understanding medical processes and care technology. Nature and Technology (N&T) is also suitable due to the strong technical component. Mathematics B and physics are important subjects because you will work extensively with data analysis and technical systems. Biology helps in understanding care processes and medical backgrounds. Usually no additional admission requirements or entrance tests are required. Alternative admission pathways exist through a 21+ test for adults without the proper preliminary education, or through bridging programs for students with other backgrounds who still want to enroll.

Career Prospects

After completion, you can work as a care technology specialist, implementation consultant at care software companies, process analyst in hospitals or healthcare organizations, or quality employee care and technology. You work in sectors such as hospitals, mental health institutions, elderly care, home care, health insurers, or at suppliers of medical technology and care software. Starting salaries range between €2,400 and €3,000 gross per month, depending on the employer and region. Career advancement opportunities are excellent: you can progress to a full HBO bachelor's degree such as HBO-ICT, Applied Psychology or Management in Healthcare, or advance to positions such as project manager care improvement or consultant care innovation.

Impact of AI on this program

AI has a growing influence on Associate Degree Care and Technology. Routine tasks are being automated, while complex decision-making, creativity and human contact become more important. Knowledge of AI tools and data literacy is a growing competency in this field.
