A week as a student

Listen: a week in Roofer0:00 / 0:00

Monday starts early. You have class at school, in a large workshop. The teacher explains how to work with bitumen, a thick, black material used for flat roofs. You also get theory lessons about safety, because you'll soon be working at heights. You learn what a harness is and when you need to wear one.

Tuesday and Wednesday are practical days in the workshop. You practise laying tiles on a fake roof surface, a section of roof that stands right there at school. Your teacher shows you step by step how to lay tiles straight. You work together with two or three other students. On Wednesday you also have theory about materials, so about the properties of insulation material.
