Required Education

For admission to the AD Cybersecurity program, you need at least an MBO level 4 diploma in an ICT-related field such as Application and Media Developer or Software Developer, or a HAVO diploma. The Nature & Technology (N&T) profile fits best with this program because you need strong mathematical and technical skills for cryptography, network protocols, and algorithms. Nature & Health (N&G) can also be suitable due to the mathematical component. In secondary school, mathematics B, physics, and computer science are highly relevant subjects that help you understand network topologies and security algorithms. Some universities of applied sciences use an entrance exam to assess your technical prior knowledge and logical reasoning ability. Alternative admission is possible through a bridging course if you have an MBO-4 diploma in a non-ICT field but have relevant work experience in technology or IT.

After obtaining your AD Cybersecurity, you can immediately start working as a junior cybersecurity analyst, security officer, penetration tester, or incident responder at security companies, large corporations, or government organizations. You work in sectors such as financial services, healthcare, energy, and transport where cybersecurity is crucial. As a starter, you can expect a salary between €2,800 and €3,500 gross per month, which is relatively high for an AD level due to the high demand for cybersecurity professionals. Career advancement opportunities are excellent: you can progress to a full HBO bachelor's in Cybersecurity or Computer Science to deepen your knowledge, or develop further into a senior security consultant, security architect, or chief information security officer (CISO) with years of experience and additional certifications.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is fundamentally transforming AD Cybersecurity. Programming is shifting toward AI-assisted development with tools like GitHub Copilot.
