What will you learn?

(Internationaal Toeristisch Management) In the AD International Tourism Management program, you learn all aspects of the international tourism and travel industry, from organizing trips to managing tourism businesses. You receive practice-oriented courses such as travel product development, international marketing, cultural studies, hospitality management, and financial management for the tourism sector. You also learn to work with reservation systems like Amadeus, Sabre, and other GDS systems that are crucial in the industry. Additionally, you develop communication skills in multiple languages, with English and often a second foreign language such as Spanish, German, or French being central. What makes this AD unique compared to a full bachelor's degree is the direct focus on practice-oriented skills that you can immediately apply in the workplace, without the more theoretical and research-based components. You work on real projects for tourism enterprises, organize events and trips, and complete an extensive internship at international travel organizations, hotels, attractions, or destinations. The program is perfect for you if you love traveling, different cultures, enjoy customer contact, and want to quickly get started in the dynamic international tourism industry.

Required Education

For admission to the AD International Tourism Management program, you need at least an MBO level 4 diploma, preferably in a related field such as Tourism & Recreation, Commerce, or Communication. You can also enter with a HAVO or VWO diploma, where the Culture & Society (C&M) or Economics & Society (E&M) profile fits best. C&M is ideal because you already get acquainted with different cultures, history, and social studies, which is directly relevant for understanding international destinations and traveler motivations. E&M fits well through the economic foundation and business administration aspects you need for managing tourism enterprises. In secondary school, especially English, economics, history, and geography are highly relevant, because you have many international contacts and knowledge of destinations is essential. Many programs require a minimum English level of B2, and some schools organize an intake interview to test your motivation and communication skills. As an alternative entry route, you can also enter through a 21+ test if you don't have a formal diploma but do have relevant work experience in the tourism or service industry.

Career Prospects

After your AD, you can immediately start working as a travel consultant, travel advisor, tour operator employee, or event coordinator at travel organizations such as TUI, Sunweb, or local travel agencies. You can also work at international hotel chains, theme parks, cruise companies, or at Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) responsible for promoting destinations. Other possible positions are sales representative for international partners, product manager for travel products, or customer advisor at airline companies. Starting salaries range between €2,200 and €2,800 gross per month, depending on the type of organization and your specific role. For career advancement, you can move on to positions such as sales manager, operations manager, or start your own travel business. Many AD graduates also choose to continue studying toward a full HBO bachelor's degree in International Business, Tourism Management, or International Hospitality Management, where you can often enter directly into the third year, allowing you to obtain your bachelor's diploma within one additional year.
