Cinematography

On Monday you often start with a lecture on Film History and Theory. The lecturer shows clips and explains how directors worked in the past. After that, you discuss what you saw in a small group. You write a short reflection on the style of a film. This helps you make better creative choices later on.

On Tuesday you get hands-on in the Camera Work and Composition practical. You learn how to set up the camera to get a good shot. Composition means: how you arrange the elements in your frame. You practise with real cameras in the film studio at the hogeschool [university of applied sciences]. On Wednesday, Lighting and Colour is on the timetable. You discover how light can make a scene — a part of a film — look completely different. You work together with two or three fellow students on a short practice recording.
