(Fysiotherapeut) As a physiotherapist, you help people with movement problems through exercise therapy, massage, and advice. You develop treatment plans to reduce pain, improve mobility, and prevent injuries. You work independently or in a team with other healthcare professionals.
To become a physiotherapist, you need an HBO bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy, for which you must have completed at least HAVO with the Nature & Health (N&G) profile. Important subjects are biology, physics, and mathematics, because you need thorough knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanics. After your HBO education, you can further specialize in areas such as sports physiotherapy, pediatric physiotherapy, or manual therapy. A formal physiotherapy education is mandatory - experience alone is not sufficient because you need BIG registration to practice as a physiotherapist.
As a physiotherapist, you often start as a practitioner in a clinic, hospital, or rehabilitation center. With experience, you can advance to senior physiotherapist, practice manager, or start your own practice. Specializations such as sports physiotherapy, geriatrics, or manual therapy offer excellent growth opportunities. The aging population and increased focus on preventive care ensure excellent labor market prospects in this field.
AI is transforming the role of physiotherapists by automating administrative tasks and using advanced diagnostic tools that optimize treatment plans. Physiotherapists must adapt by developing digital skills, such as using AI software and teletherapy. While some routine tasks are being automated, human interaction remains crucial. The job market is expected to grow due to greater demand for personalized care, with technological developments making physiotherapy more efficient and effective.
