What does a Physiotherapist?

(Fysiotherapeut) As a physiotherapist, you help people with movement problems through exercise therapy, massage, and advice. You develop treatment plans to reduce pain, improve mobility, and prevent injuries. You work independently or in a team with other healthcare professionals.

Required Education

To become a physiotherapist, you need an HBO bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy, for which you must have completed at least HAVO with the Nature & Health (N&G) profile. Important subjects are biology, physics, and mathematics, because you need thorough knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanics. After your HBO education, you can further specialize in areas such as sports physiotherapy, pediatric physiotherapy, or manual therapy. A formal physiotherapy education is mandatory - experience alone is not sufficient because you need BIG registration to practice as a physiotherapist.
