Your week starts on Monday with a lecture in Educational Psychology. That means you learn how students think and learn. The teacher explains why some students struggle with a new skill. You listen, take notes, and discuss this with fellow students. After that, you work in a small group on an assignment about student support — so, how do you help a student who gets stuck.
On Tuesday you go to the teaching kitchen. That is a special kitchen at school to practise in. You prepare a menu while also paying attention to how you explain things. Because soon you will be teaching this lesson to students yourself. Wednesday has Vakdidactiek Consumptieve Techniek [subject teaching methods for food technology] on the timetable. In this course you learn how to explain cooking and baking clearly to others. You write a lesson plan — a plan for one single lesson — and discuss it with your group.
