HBO teacher training program

After completing the HBO teacher training programme, graduates have access to a range of educational positions. The most obvious career opportunities are in primary education as a classroom teacher or in secondary education as a subject teacher, depending on the chosen specialisation. Vocational secondary education (MBO) also offers interesting opportunities for HBO-qualified teachers. In addition to traditional teaching roles, graduates can find employment in related sectors. Think of positions at educational publishers, training and consultancy firms, or as an instructor in corporate training programmes. Municipal services, youth institutions and cultural organisations also regularly seek professionals with an educational background for educational programmes and projects. Employment in education is strongly influenced by demographic developments and policy decisions. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and the Labour Market Platform PO/VO have been reporting a structural and growing teacher shortage for several years, particularly in primary education and in the Randstad region. This shortage significantly increases the demand for well-qualified teachers and gives graduates a strong position on the labour market.
