Monday starts with a large lecture — a class with a hundred or more students at once. Today's topic is developmental psychology: how children grow and change. The lecturer explains how children learn to talk, think, and feel. You listen and take notes. After the lecture, you read ahead in your textbook on your own. At a wo [university] programme, a lot of self-study is completely normal.
On Tuesday you have a werkcollege [seminar] about pedagogy — the science of raising and educating children. A seminar is a smaller group, usually twenty to thirty students. Together you discuss a text you read at home. The lecturer asks questions and you share your thoughts. On Wednesday you work in a small project group on a research assignment. You might look into how support at school helps children, for example. You learn to work together and explain your ideas clearly.
