Required Education

This position typically requires a HBO or university degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a comparable technical field. For HAVO/VWO, the Nature & Technology (N&T) profile is most suitable, where mathematics, physics and possibly computer science are important subjects. A strong background in programming, cryptography and distributed systems is essential. While formal education is strongly preferred, experienced software developers with demonstrable expertise in blockchain technologies and relevant certifications may sometimes also be considered.

Required Skills

Career Perspective

As a Blockchain Developer, you often start as a Junior Developer or Software Engineer with interest in distributed systems and cryptography. With experience, you can grow to Senior Blockchain Developer, Lead Developer, or even Blockchain Architect who designs complex systems. Logical next steps are roles as Technical Lead, CTO of blockchain startups, or consultant for enterprise blockchain implementations. The field offers excellent prospects due to increasing adoption of blockchain in financial services, supply chain management and Web3 applications.

AI Impact on the job

AI is transforming the role of blockchain developers by automating tasks such as code generation and error detection, allowing developers to focus on more complex problems. New skills, such as knowledge of AI integrations and machine learning applications within blockchain, are becoming increasingly important. The job market outlook is mixed; while automation threatens to replace some functions, there is simultaneously growing demand for developers who can combine AI with blockchain technology, leading to new career opportunities.
