For a position as credit analyst, you typically need an HBO or university education, preferably in business economics, finance, accounting, or a comparable economic field of study. If you want to pursue this path via HAVO/VWO, the Economics & Society (E&M) profile is most suitable, where subjects like mathematics and economics form a strong foundation. A solid command of mathematics and statistics is essential for analyzing financial data and calculating risks. In some cases, relevant work experience in the financial sector, combined with additional certifications, can compensate for a lower education level.
As a Credit Analyst, you often enter through a starter position such as Junior Financial Analyst or Credit Administrator, where you gain basic experience in financial analysis and risk assessment. From this role, you can advance to Senior Credit Analyst, Credit Manager, or Risk Manager, where you manage more complex portfolios and make strategic decisions. Further career steps lead to positions such as Head of Credit Management, Director Risk Management, or even Chief Risk Officer. The financial sector offers excellent growth opportunities, especially due to increasing regulations and the growing need for risk management.
