(Leraar Engels) As an English teacher, you give lessons to students at various levels, from primary to secondary education. You develop lesson programs that cover grammar, vocabulary, and literature, and ensure that students develop both written and oral skills. You work closely with fellow teachers, mentors, and parents to monitor and guide students' progress. Additionally, you organize activities such as language projects, plays, or international exchanges to bring the English language to life.
As an English Teacher, you often start as a beginning teacher or substitute teacher before getting a permanent position. You can advance to positions such as head of modern foreign languages department, internationalization coordinator, or school leader. Other growth paths lead to educational consulting, training colleagues, or specialization in areas such as dyslexia support. Education offers good job security, and due to the increasing focus on internationalization and multilingualism, prospects for skilled English teachers remain positive.
AI tools such as chatbots and translation software can support you in creating practice materials and checking grammar assignments. You can use AI for personalized exercises and to quickly provide feedback on students' writing assignments. However, the human elements of your work - such as motivating students, explaining cultural context, and discussing complex literature - remain essential. You will increasingly use AI as a tool, while your focus shifts to guiding critical thinking and intercultural communication.
