(Docent Economie) As an economics teacher, you teach lessons to students in secondary schools and guide them in developing their economic insight. You provide lessons on topics such as market mechanisms, business economics, macroeconomics, and financial literacy, explaining complex economic concepts in an understandable way. In addition to teaching, you prepare exams, grade tests, and conduct conversations with students about their study progress. You work closely with subject group colleagues, mentors, and school management to shape the curriculum and optimally guide students in their development.
You can start as a beginning teacher or substitute teacher to gain experience in education. As an economics teacher, you can advance to subject group coordinator, where you take leadership over economics education at school. Follow-up steps are positions such as head of social studies department, deputy head, or headmaster of a secondary school. Additionally, you can specialize as an educational advisor, examination secretary, or trainer at educational institutions, or transition to positions in the business world where your educational experience is valued.
AI tools increasingly help you create customized teaching materials, analyze learning results, and provide personalized feedback to students. Automatic correction systems for certain test types save you time with grading work, allowing you to spend more attention on guidance and interaction. AI-driven learning environments make it possible to develop economic simulations and realistic case studies that enhance understanding of complex economic processes. Your role shifts toward more coaching and guiding critical thinking about AI-generated information.
